Facilities

The ICIQ headquarters are located in a functional building with a built-up area of 8,012 m2 (Phase I) that is currently in the process of being enlarged. The site is equipped with all the latest safety devices and was built according to the same principles of sustainability that underlie the research conducted inside. Some of the building's stand-out features include minimal water and energy consumption, comprehensive laboratory management and a modular design that enables the restructuring of laboratory spaces to accommodate different needs. In its present Phase I, the centre consists of 15 research laboratories, 4 research support laboratories and 2 technology laboratories, all of which are supervised by highly specialised staff. In addition this building houses a NMR Unit lab, a computer cluster, a high pressure reactions laboratory and a conference hall with a capacity for 85 people.
The second building, whose opening was in June 2009, is divided into three floors with a total built-up area of 4,800 m2 (Phase II). This new building increase the number of research laboratories by 12, the number of research support laboratories by 1 and the number of technology laboratories by 2. It moreover provides a more strategic location to house the computational groups. The new building’s research laboratories will be devoted to the ICIQ’s two main strategic objectives. To this end, one floor of the new building will form a part of the Science and Technology Park of Tarragona (PCTT) and will be used to house a business incubator and mixed ICIQ/business units. A second floor will be used to house research groups from the ICIQ’s Tenure Track Programme for Researchers.
